Next Step: The Japan Competition


The Columbia Venture Community (CVC) Taiwan, Columbia Alumni Taiwan, Columbia Venture Community Japan and Columbia Alumni Japan, in collaboration with the Taipei Computer Association, BE Health, Startup Terrace and GTB Accelerator, invites Taiwan-based startups to participate in an exciting pitch competition that will springboard you into the Japanese market.

We are selecting up to 10 Taiwan-based startups to pitch live for the opportunity to travel to Japan. Winning teams will receive a ticket to Tokyo and the chance to undergo an intensive 2-month bootcamp to prepare you thoroughly to meet Japanese investors. In Japan, you will meet up with Japanese startups and also Japanese accelerators and incubators for a comprehensive overview of the Japan startup ecosystem.

Eligibility (summary)

  • Company incorporated in Taiwan for less than 5 years
  • All industries welcome; Japan expansion interest

FAQ

  • Do pitch decks have to be in English?
    Yes, pitch decks need to be English. In the event that you are selected, the pitch will also need to be conducted in English.

  • Is there a focus on any specific industry?
    No, we welcome startups from any industry.

  • How many winners will be selected?
    Up to 10 startups will be selected for the pitch competition and 3 startups will receive a ticket to Tokyo. All companies selected for the pitch competition will receive the opportunity to undergo the bootcamp.

  • Will you also be providing accommodation?
    We will award each winning startup a single ticket to Tokyo. You are expected to cover expenses for your own accommodation, meals and other travel.

  • What can you expect at the bootcamp?
    Over the course of the bootcamp, mentors will help you to polish your deck and pitch. Mentors will also work with you to understand the intricacies and nuances of the Japanese market and how to engage effectively with Japanese customers. Please note that we expect you to make substantial time commitment to this program because we want to sure that you will succeed.
